Common replacement options
- Insulated steel or composite sheets. Light, durable and quick to fit. A common choice for garages.
- Box profile or corrugated steel. Budget friendly, can be plain or coated.
- Modern fibre cement sheets. Asbestos-free and similar in look to the old roof.
- Flat roof systems. EPDM rubber, GRP or felt can suit a flat or low-pitch garage.
- Tiles or slates. Possible but heavier and usually needs stronger timbers.

Things to decide with your contractor
- Are the existing timbers sound or do they need replacing?
- Do you want insulation for a workshop, gym or storage?
- Do you want a roof that can take solar panels later?
- What guarantee comes with the materials and the labour?
Why do it in one visit?
Removing and replacing in one go means one scaffold, one team and no weeks of an open roof. Our removal and new roof page explains the process.

Thinking about solar?
A new roof is the easiest time to prepare for panels. Read our guide on solar panels on a garage roof.
